About the Course

Level 3 NKT introduces the concept of True Pairs, two related strong in the clear muscles or two weak in the clear muscles.  We do that by breaking down gait patterns. We then teach how to use an indicator muscle to assess ligaments, scars, the hyoid, and the eyes.  This new protocol allows you to treat soft tissue components that cannot be muscle tested.  We will explore the ligaments of the pelvis and ankle, test a scar to itself or other scars, learn how the hyoid and its muscles can affect global movement patterns, and how they eye muscle can be tested to treat concussions, eye movement dysfunctions and balance issues.

Day 1: Subsystems & Core

9:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Movement Subsystems
Topics Covered:

  • In-depth discussion and hands-on testing of the following subsystems:
    • Intrinsic Core Subsystem (ICS)
    • Deep Longitudinal Subsystem (DLS)
    • Lateral Subsystem (LS)
    • Posterior Oblique Subsystem (POS)
    • Anterior Oblique Subsystem (AOS)

Subsystem Functions & Relevance:

  • Intrinsic Core Subsystem (ICS):
    • Includes diaphragm, pelvic floor, multifidus, and transversus abdominis.
    • Regulates intra-abdominal pressure and spinal segmental stability.
  • Deep Longitudinal Subsystem (DLS):
    • Involves erector spinae, thoracolumbar fascia, sacrotuberous ligament, biceps femoris, and peroneals.
    • Facilitates shock absorption and load transfer during gait.
  • Lateral Subsystem (LS):
    • Includes glute medius, TFL, adductors, and QL.
    • Provides frontal plane stabilization during single-leg stance and gait.
  • Posterior Oblique Subsystem (POS):
    • Integrates latissimus dorsi, glute max, and thoracolumbar fascia.
    • Crucial for contralateral force transfer (e.g., gait, throwing).
  • Anterior Oblique Subsystem (AOS):
    • Composed of internal/external obliques, adductors, and hip flexors.
    • Essential for rotational and frontal plane movement, especially in athletic activities.

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Lunch Break

1:30 PM – 2:30 PM
Perturbation, Compression & Decompression of Joints
Topics Covered:

  • Partner practice using manual perturbation techniques to assess how the body stabilizes.
  • Understanding how compressive and decompressive forces affect joint integrity and muscle function.

2:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Joint Compression/Decompression: Testing & Application
Topics Covered:

  • Hands-on assessment of spinal, hip, shoulder, and neck joint compression and decompression strategies.
  • Discussion of related compensatory motor patterns and how to integrate NKT corrections.
  • Exploration of why joint compression and decompression occur in the body and the compensatory strategies.

Day 2: Rotational Dynamics, Diaphragm & TMJ Integration

8:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Rotational Patterns in the Kinetic Chain
Topics Covered:

  • Advanced assessment of rotational dysfunctions across the spine: cervical, thoracic, and lumbopelvic regions, and their interrelationships.
  • How rotational asymmetry impacts gait and athletic performance.
  • Unilateral rotational dominance as a sign of dysfunctional oblique subsystem integration—correcting this improves power and stability.

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Diaphragm Function & Integration (Part I)
Topics Covered:

  • The diaphragm’s role in the Intrinsic Core Subsystem.
  • Assessment of diaphragmatic breathing and its relationship to thoracic mobility and pelvic stability.
  • Integration with pelvic floor, multifidus, and TVA.
  • Clients with chronic neck or low back tension often use accessory breathing muscles—restoring diaphragm function resets ICS integrity.

12:30 PM – 1:30 PM
Lunch Break

1:30 PM – 2:30 PM
Diaphragm Function (Part II)
Topics Covered:

  • Continued practice and application of techniques to assess and correct diaphragm-related dysfunctions.
  • Use of NKT protocols to treat inhibitory patterns linked to altered breath mechanics.
  • Testing and correcting diaphragm function often restores coordination across the entire kinetic chain—the breath is the foundation of movement.

2:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction
Topics Covered:

  • NKT assessment of TMJ and how it relates to compensation patterns of the body.
  • Practice protocols for addressing jaw-related compensation patterns.
  • PowerPoint (electronic)
  • Practice Worksheets
  • A Vimeo of the class demos is provided upon completion of the two day seminar.
  • Mentorship Information and access to live study groups
  • Access to Facebook NKT Advanced Scholars page
  • Access to learn.neurokinetictherapy.com video library with online study groups, tutorials and courses on a variety of subjects for a small cost.
  • Upon certification your listing in the NKT Practitioner Directory will be updated to Level 2.

15 CEUs for massage therapists approved by the NCBTMB. This is only for Level 1. Florida provides 15 CEUs for massage therapists for all levels of NKT.

16 CEUs from BOC for Athletic Trainers for all 3 Levels; for Integrated Muscle Testing and Palpation class; and for NKT Mobility and Assessment class.

4 CEUs from BOC for Athletic Trainers for Manual Muscle Testing class.

1.5 CEUs for Physical Therapists in California (Levels 1 & 2), New York, Texas, and others. Please check with your state board to see if our classes qualify.

The certification for all levels includes:

  • The 15-hour Level 1, 2, or 3 courses in NeuroKinetic Therapy®corrective movement system;
  • For Level 1, three written case studies
  • For Level 2, six written case studies
  • For Level 3, five written case studies
  • Perform an NKT®session in person on an approved Certifier, or perform an NKT® session via Zoom.
  • You must practice for at least a month before certifying at any Level.

The cost of this half-hour session is $70 but the price may vary depending on the country. This session is used to evaluate the proficiency and knowledge of the student.

When taking a Level 2 or 3 class, you must be certified no later than a week before the start of class.

Certfication Deadlines:

You have 6 months from the date of the class to get certified. If you certify within 9 months it cost an additional $50. If you certify within a year it cost an additional $100. If you cannot certify within a year you have to repeat the class.

Maintaining Your Listing on the Directory:

Your listing on the directory lasts 2 years unless you certify to a higher level within that time. Then it lasts 2 more years from that time, etc. You are responsible for knowing the expiration date. If you do not certify to a higher level or re-certify at your current level, your listing will be dropped from the directory.

Assisting:

In order to assist you must be currently certified in that level or higher. If you are no longer certified you may not assist.

Receiving a Document of Certification:

One will be emailed to you within a week of certifying. A hard copy is given out at the start of the next level of NKT class the person attends. If you would like a hard copy of the certificate mailed to you, please email us your request and address. There is a mailing fee of $7.

Sample case study

Please mention your use of Therapy Localization (TL) and the Strong in the Clear Testing or Weak in the Clear Testing protocol to find the facilitated and inhibited muscles in your written case studies.

Patient presented with right sided Lower Back/SI Joint Pain. With the patient in a supine position, I had him arch his lower back and he had pain in his right SI region. He did not have pain when he flattened his lower back. I had him arch his lower back to initiate the NKT® protocol. Then I manual muscle tested his transversus abdominis (TVA) and it tested weak (Weak in the Clear Testing not applicable because the SI joint is a ligament)). I therapy localized over the right SI region and when I retested his TVA, it got strong.  I performed an SI joint gapping maneuver on the right SI joint and then had him arch his lower back followed by re-testing his TVA. It stayed strong. I sent him home with a home SI gapping maneuver with his belt and taught him TVA exercises. I advised him to perform the gapping technique 20 times and perform 20-30 TVA exercise repetitions (2x/day).
